Update 28/1/20 – The guides have been updated for 2020 and are looking very flash! Now available in hard copy at Health, Counselling and Disability Services, Level 3, Student Centre, Bedford Park Campus
Every now and then you come across a project where you think “why didn’t I think of that?”.
This is one such project.
Fong Ung, a social worker with the Overseas Chinese Association of SA, in collaboration with some social work placement students, put together a guide for Chinese Australians looking for health and welfare services – such as GPs, psychologists, psychiatrists, legal services and more.
Essentially the guide identifies professionals who speak Chinese, which can be incredibly comforting for those whom Mandarin or Cantonese is their primary language. In difficult times, it is hard to have to deal with a) the issue and b) a language barrier when seeking help.
The guide is available as a small booklet. You can find them on the handout wall, outside the Health, Counselling and Disability Service reception. I’ll get some to OASIS soon as well. Feel free to grab one, no charge.
